RULES SEMINAR:
This is an interactive seminar designed for a small number of participants, in which real scenarios are presented in TSS* diagram format. Participants are encouraged to identify the applicable rule(s) and the responsibilities of the boats at each position throughout the situation. Various “what ifs” will be presented to enable participants to understand the details of the rules and possible tactical options. The follow up slide refers to the rules, which are involved, and those, which could be involved.
My this method, the 2013-2016 rules of the RRS Part 2 and selected rules from parts 3&4 become more familiar and easier to understand. Model positioning on a white board supplements the initial scenario, enables variations and tactics to be discussed.
PROTEST SEMINAR:
The aim on the second day of the seminar is to familiarize both competitors and potential judges with all aspects of a protest, from the incident through to the protest committee’s decision. Competitors will therefore be able to present their case more confidently and effectively, and the feeling of intimidation should be eliminated. Potential judges will learn how to not make basic mistakes and how to arrive at decisions more acceptable to competitors. Classroom time will be followed by having the participants split in groups of five, playing the parts of protester, protestee, protest committee chairman, member and fact writer in a series of mock hearings.
