From participating in regattas to watching regattas and/or volunteering in events, to Christmas parties, Wine Tastings, a summer season of community Thursday Night Dinners, Winter Gala's, and more, we do our best offer something for everyone!

    NOTICE OF RACE (NOR)

    • 1      RULES
      • The event is governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.
    • 2      SAILING INSTRUCTIONS (SI’s)
      • The SI’s will be available after 1700hrs on 31st of May at the CYC.
    • 3      COMMUNICATION
      • The official notice board is located on the exterior west side of the change room building.
    • 4      ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
      • 4.1   The event is open to all classes.
      • 4.2   To be considered an entry in the event, a boat shall have completed all registration requirements and paid all fees.
      • 4.3   Boats assigned to the X-Class will be level rated.  Three or more boats of the same class and boats assigned to the X-Class registered by the 3rd of June at 0855 hrs will be scored as separate fleets. 
    • 5      FEES
      • 5.1   Register online at calgaryyachtclub.wildapricot.org/event-4641304.  Regatta includes:  the regatta; wine & cheese reception on Friday; continental breakfast on Saturday & Sunday; and late lunch after sailing on Sunday.  Saturday evening meal and social is at an additional cost.
      • 5.2   Early Registration online between April 15 and May 15 is:

        • Single handed Regatta           $90
        • Double handed Regatta         $130
        • Triple handed Regatta            $170
      • 5.3    Regular Registration online between May 16 and May 31 is:

        • Single handed Regatta           $100

      • 5.4   Late Registration is available on site at Regular Registration rate on Friday evening and Saturday morning, though may not include all the same benefits as an advanced Online registration.

      • 6.2   Ten races are scheduled.
    • 7      VENUE
      • Racing will take place on the waters of Chestermere Lake, Alberta.
    • 8      COURSES
      • The courses to be sailed will be either Windward/Leeward or Triangle/Sausage and a Hollywood Finish.
    • 9      SCORING
      • 9.1  One race is required to be completed to constitute a series.
      • 9.2  
        • (a) When fewer than 5 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.
        • (b) When from 5 to 10 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
    • 10   RISK STATEMENT
      • Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS 3, DECISION TO RACE.  The OA will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
    • 11   INSURANCE
      • Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of $1,000,000 per incident or the equivalent for the duration of the regatta.

    Notice of Event - Heritage Classic Sail

    Chestermere Lake, Calgary Yacht Club

    July 19 to 21 2024


    Heritage Class Criteria: Sailboats of classes that were designed in 1970 or earlier. These include (Class, Design Year): Lightning (1938), Comet (1932), Fireball (1962), Y Flyer (1941), Sea Spray (1966), Mirror Dinghy (1962), Enterprise (1956), Finn (1964), OK Dinghy (1956), Flying Dutchman (1951), Flying Junior (1956), International 14 (1928), International Canoe (1886), Wayfarer (1957), 420 (1959) and potentially others. Any boat of one of these classes is eligible, regardless of construction date and materials. For example, a 2015 Fireball made of epoxy fibreglass and a 1967 Fireball made of wood would both be eligible to participate in the Heritage Classic Sail.

    Courses: Sailing courses may be windward/leeward, triangle or a combination of the two, and potentially one longer-distance event.  

    A single mass start will be done with overall positions based on Portsmouth handicaps. Overall winners of each class will also be recognized.


    Meals and Social: Meals and social activities are part of a broader centennial of sailing celebration being held the same weekend.

    Welcome Wine and Cheese Friday, July 19 5pm is included in sailing registration as is Awards Lunch Sunday, July 21 2 pm. Sailors may alternately purchase a full meal package or singly the Saturday supper. The Saturday supper will include a program of reminiscing, history of the classes and other contributions from attendees. Some of this will be recorded on video.


    A classic boat ‘show & shine’ will be held Saturday evening from 1730 onward with boats displayed on the front lawn of the club (west side) with signage.

    (there will be an early bird registration up to and including July 1st  2024 the first 15 boats registered will receive a hand crafted miniature sailboat)
