Are you looking for something different for your group to do? Why not LEARN TO SAIL!
The Calgary Yacht Club can tailor an affordable program to suit your group! Whether it's a day, a weekend or a week, our fully equipped facilities and certified instructors can accommodate you!
Teaching a child to sail is to give them a gift for life. The skills they acquire will continually help them as they navigate their way through life. They learn self confidence by being able to pilot their own craft. Spatial awareness is developed which brings them prowess in all activities that require co-ordination - like driving. Out of necessity, a sense of direction and weather knowledge are instilled and good organization becomes a habit.
But the benefits of teaching a child to sail don't end there. Kids become accountable the minute they take the helm of their own boat and develop vision by balancing the finer details inside the boat with the larger picture of the race course. Sailor kids push through their fear threshold which fosters bravery - many are scared of capsizing or strong wind. And lastly, they learn patience - waiting all day for the wind to fill in requires an amazing amount.
Sailing is a lifetime sport; a unique recreation that one can enjoy for many, many years. The friends, relationships and skills that kids develop in sailing at a young age will last them a lifetime. It’s a complete education sport with both physical and mental demands. Kids in sailing is a form of creative art. Where else or what else allows kids to participate where there are no boundaries, no walls, no sidelines. Sailing for kids, be it cruising or racing is freedom. It’s joyful!
